AMC Theatres to Release Horror Thriller 'Smiley'

AMC Theatres will release Michael Gallagher’s horror thriller Smiley through its AMC independent platform on Oct. 12. Fever Productions, the movie’s producer, has struck a deal with the theater chain, which will market the movie and introduce it on 28 screens in 14 markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston and Atlanta.

When director Michael Gallagher and his co-writer Glasgow Phillips chose the shadowy online group 4chan and Anonymous as villains for their microbudget slasher pic "Smiley" they were seeking authenticity - and the chance to shine a light on one of the darkest corners of the Internet.
But they didn't foresee a pre-release backlash.
